I believe the fastest way to learn guitar is using video.When I was first learning how to play I used to use a book. I found this to be far to cumbersome, and I was never sure if I was learning things the right way.
Had there been access to the web when I started I would have been taking full advantage of all the different free resources available including YouTube and Google Video.
Each of these video sites offers a ton of great free content. I’ve always found that watching someone do something like playing guitar is far more helpful then trying to learn it from a book or article.

Start Jamming Regularly
It isn’t the easiest step to take when you’re first starting out, but you’ll learn much faster when you start jamming with others who are better then you.
It’s embarrassing at first to try and keep up with your friends, but they will be a wealth of information if you get the courage to show up on a Friday night to jam. You can learn more jamming on your acoustic guitar with friends for two hours then you might learn all month watching free guitar lesson videos.
