Learn to Play the Violin Online

The violin is the basis for an orchestra and can be one of the most rewarding instruments to play.

It takes dedication to learn to play the violin. You have to be ready to commit to practicing everyday to improve.

While you can sometimes play the violin by plucking the strings, most music does require the use of the bow. Mastering the bow can at first seem strange.

Thankfully, there are several different methods of learning the violin that are available to you. One of the best methods to help you is to get a teacher. The real secret to learning how to play the violin well is getting the best teacher possible.

A good violin teacher will help you understand the concepts of playing the violin. You should get where you want to be better than with an ordinary teacher. A great teacher should be enthusiastic. He must have a lot of experience to draw. He should use good teaching techniques from the start.

Another option that some consider is teaching themselves via online violin lessons. There are several different sites you can visit that offer these courses. You need to do your research to make sure you’re choosing the best one for you.

A good online training will have a wide array of video clips that you can download. You will learn the correct position to hold the violin as well as how to read notes.

There are also a variety of books that you can check out from the local library, or even purchase online as well. They teach you methods you need to master to learn to play violin correctly. Using books, however, is only useful if you have some violin playing experience. Or at least have some musical insight already.

Playing the violin can be a very rewarding experience. Now you have many options available to you to help you get the basics and create a solid foundation from which to grow in your musical journey.

How To Play The Violin

Learning how to play the violin takes time, patience and skill. As a musician myself and having spent 3 long years at The Royal Scottish Academy Of Music I understand a thing or 2 about learning instruments.

Right across the board of learning to play any instrument or in fact learning any subject or skill, there is one common factor. It rears it’s head at every possible opportunity.

Repetition. Repetition is the mother of all learning. Let me say it again ‘repetition’.

But I will keep this article focused on just the violin. Thus, there are a few things that you need to know as you begin to study the musical instrument:

  1. First up you have to go and find a good teacher. Don’t be afraid to phone and speak to them first. You want to get to know them and this helps you decide if they are suitable for you too.
  2. You will need a basic but good instrument. All to often people buy the cheapest instrument and this may not be your best option to take. A bad instrument can prevent you from progress. Hunt out someone that can give you some good advice by going to a violin specialist shop or retailer. You don’t have to spend a fortune or get something from a violin maker themselves but prhaps start with a good Suzuki model – very popular among beginners.
  3. Ok this is the biggest tip I can give you for learning how to play the violin. Develop and stick to a good practice routine. Without this your progress will be none exsistant or at best, slow. By putting in good, focused practice you will learn quickly, read music well, have a great technique and you will enjoy it much, much more compared to not practising.

When it comes to developing a practice routine you are going to have to be a little disciplined. Your teacher will be able to help you with what you should work on each day, but here are a few tips that I use and give to my students:

  • Aim to practice daily.
  • Little and often is better than a marathon work session at the weekend
  • Don’t forget to warm up, this is part of your practice and could be done with some simple scales.
  • Include exercises and pure technique work regularly.
  • Work on 2 or 3 pieces so you don’t get bored of just the one.
  • Do some practice without your instrument. This could be learning to read your music quickly and fluently. Or perhaps clapping and counting some rhythm passages.

If you are looking at playing the violin remember to find a good teacher that you are going to gel with. Otherwise you could be throwing your money down the drain. Lessons are not cheap after all.

ViolinMasterPro is a self study, online violin course from one of the worlds greatest players, Mr Eric Lewis. This is why it is sometimes shown as ‘The Complete Eric Lewis Course’.

  • It aims to be a complete solution to learning the violin and as E Lewis plays with the Manhattan String Quartet, you are in pretty safe hands. He has toured the world extensively, has taught both privately and in institutes of higher education for more than 40 years, enabling many players to reach their dreams.

The course began back in 1988, while Prof. Lewis was conducting higher institute orchestras. He designed a new method that would enable players of all ages to expand their horizons and play incredibly difficult pieces of music in a shorter amount of time. He accelerated the learning curve for young string players to produce concerts of Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.

His method was obviously recorded in writing to begin with, but with the .com boom and technological progressions of the 21st century this has now been packaged into an online video course.

The program overall is excellent and it is teaching thousands of players around the globe, but needless to say there are a few different views.

As a musician myself I find a lot of the negative views probably come from the downside to the program. You still have to practice! Irrelevant of who teaches you, there are still sacrifices of time and effort that need to be made on a regular basis.

All that being said, if you’re not completely satisfied with the product it does come with a full, take it to the bank, get every red cent back, 100% guarantee, unlike most lessons!
