Thrash metals big four bands
With the Thrash metal revival in full swing, lets take alook at Thrash metals ‘big four’ bands that bought the genre to the forefront just the heyday of 80s thrash.
- Metallica. One of the first wave of thrash bands, Metallica gave us ‘kill ‘em all’ in 1983 and ‘Ride the Lightning’ a year later, then stepped things up with 1986’s Master of puppets -an album people claim is the pinnacle of the genre. After the technicality of ‘And justice for all’, Metallica were catapulted into rock stardom with the ‘black’ album, which cause many to level claims of ’sell out’ at the band. After ‘load’ and ‘re-load’, fighting napster and rehab, Metallica came back out with ‘St Anger’, which the making of was filmed for the movie documentary ‘Some kind of monster’. Last year saw the release of ‘Death Magnetic’, hailed as the ‘best’ Metallica record in years. A step back in the right direction? We’ll see.
- Slayer. From California, Slayer started out sounding very Judas Priest/ Iron maiden-ish with their first two albums ‘Show no mercy’ and ‘Hell awaits’, then came their classic thrash album ‘reign in blood’ in 1986, bringing in more speed, aggression and balls to the wall brutality. While other metal bands disapeared during the 90s, Slayer survived by doing what they did best -playing Brutal music. Seasons in the abyss, ‘Diabilous in musica’ and ‘Divine intervention’ were all released during this time. Original drummer Dave Lombardo returned after ‘God hates us all’ for ‘Christ illusion’. Rumors persist of the next album being the last one- lets hope that isnt the case.
- Megadeth. Fired from Metallica, Dave Mustaine put all his anger and rage into Megadeth in an attempt to ‘one-up’ them. They released debut album ‘killing is my business and business is good’ in 1985, then much loved albums ‘peace sells’, ‘rust in peace’ amd countdown to extinction’. Megadeths one constant has alwasy been Mustaine, with a revolving door policy on the other band members. Mustaine called a close to Megadeth in 2002 after being left with nerve damage in one of his arms. Intensive pyshical therapy repaired my hand and Meagdeth were up and running again in 2004, releasing the system has failed and united abominations.
- Anthrax. Formed in 1981 by guitar players Danny Lilker and Scott Ian, Anthrax’s debut ‘fistful of metal’ is the only album to feature original vocalist Neil Turbin. Then came singer Joey Belladonna to complete the classic anthrax line up for the next 5 albums, including the albums ’spreading the disease’ and ‘among the living’ before being replaced with John Bush of Armored Saint. Anthrax were then pushed to the side on their new label until Nuclear Blast picked them up and gave us ‘we have come for you all’ in 2004. The band later re-united with Joey Belladonna before he to jumped ship- and Anthrax have now drafted in Dan Nelson and are currently writing new materal.
This thrash nostalgia made you want to don some converse trainers and retro bags again? Look no further.
7 Tips For Beginning Piano Players
To get a jump start on learning to play the piano, you can probably use a few extra tips. Some of them are obvious, but they need to be said anyway. As for the rest, you may learn a thing or two. Try to memorize these tips to keep you in good stead during the learning process.
(… and above all, remember that learning to play piano today is quite possible on your own, as there are a number of good training packages available in bookstores or online …)
1. If you are really not interested in the piano, do yourself and everyone else a favor. Do not try. You may see advantages of being able to play the piano, but your enthusiasm isn’t too strong. In that case, you could listen to lots of piano music and see if you develop an interest. Do not start trying to play until you are happy at the thought of learning.
2. Play what you like. In the old days, and often even today, piano teachers spent months with their students before they were allowed to play anything they enjoyed playing. You will get more gratification if you find ways to play at least simple or improvised versions of songs you know and like. That will keep you going.
3. Dive right in. Do not wait for the sun to turn purple or even to learn all the scales. Begin playing as soon as possible. The more you play, the more you will learn. And the better you become, the more you will enjoy playing. It creates an upward spiral that will increase your abilities.
4. Play on the best piano you have available. Although don’t be too put off if all you can find is an electric keyboard. It’s definitely an advantage if you get to use a Clavinova, as it has all of the 88 keys. Others may argue that an upright piano is even better. But obviously, if you are able to practice on a grand piano, by all means go for it!.
5. Do your best not to disturb others in the household. The sound will invariably echo through the walls. In most households, this is unavoidable. Although, try to make sure that you ask permission before you begin to practice, as those who need some quiet time, or need to study will find the noise very distracting. Maybe they have had a hard day and just need a little peace. If you ignore their feelings, friction between you will make your practice unpleasant.
6. Be self disciplined, but not overly so. Do not be harsh with yourself. There are times where it is simply not practical to continue playing. Try not to force yourself to continue, as you may come to dislike each session. Allow yourself a little leeway. Don’t relax too much though – if you start to become too laxed, you may give up all together. Only constant practice can aid you to develop your senses and coordination, in order to eventually achieve mastery.
7. Start yourself a journal in order to monitor progress. If anything is new to you, or confusing, take 5 minutes to check the internet or reference manual . Write it in a notebook or make a document on your computer to type in all the things you have learned. You can also write in the notebook what has worked for you and what has seemed to make things harder. Record accomplishments while fresh on the mind, as you may soon forget.
As a beginning piano player, you have all the time in the world to learn new things abut your instrument. Each time you find something that makes your life easier; remember it so that you can use it again. When you do that, you can build on each lesson and advance to higher and higher levels.

Reviewing U2’s Latest Album, No Line on the Horizon
On March 3, 2009, U2 released their 12th studio album, No Line on the Horizon.
It’s been a while since their last release, 2004’s How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, but it was worth the wait. The album, with 11 tracks, contains classic U2 music.
The Irish rockers get back to basics with their strongest offering in years. It was recorded in Dublin, New York, London and Fès, Morocco. And the good news is that Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite all helped to produce the album. But I don’t think this is the best U2 album since Eno and Lanois first worked with the band on 1984’s The Unforgettable Fire.
Magnificent, with its drum crescendos, trademark guitar riffs, and a soaring Bono vocal, is easily the best song on the album and is the second single to be released. The first song released, Get On Your Boots, is actually a good track; this is the song the band performed at the Grammys on February 8.Get on Your Boots is a fun, foot-tapping track. However, Boots only hit No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Breathe suggests that the band’s classic approach can still sound contemporary. The album ends with a sad, thoughtful song, Cedars of Lebanon, a track about war and violence. Lyrics like “the right to appear ridiculous is something I hold dear” in the song I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight, show that the band still has a sense of humour.
Sales, however, have not been very strong since the release of the album. No Line on the Horizon only sold 484,000 copies during the first week of sales. These days, not many acts would consider that number a disappointment.U2, however, is not just any musical act. The Irish band’s last album, 2004’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, sold 840,000 copies in the first week.
A couple of the tracks are a bit long and the cover art is very plain, however, I think No Line on the Horizon is a worthy addition to U2’s collection.

Make your Music Sound More Skilled with Gain Reduction
Have you ever thought about recording music at all? Or maybe you have your very own studio that you record in daily. Do you generally find yourself listening to music on the radio and music in all day long? You could possibly already own a whole audio system that you use or have at least thought about getting. Most audio professionals use a hardware compressor and limiter when they are recording with their audio system.
Ever heard someone say that a song had been compressed? It can make the whole track sound better and more professional. It’s very rare to hear a song that hasn’t been compressed; especially when you can find a track with every single piece of it compressed. Doesn’t it make sense when I say that the best way to become a professional is to invest in the same professional equipment that they use?
Do I have to get a compressor?
If you have an audio system, you will eventually need to get a compressor when recording different audios. The audio compressor and limiter will regulate the volume of a track. The volume is reduced when the gain is too loud to level out the two sounds or loud and quiet parts. During this process, the compressor will perform Gain Reduction. Another way to say it is that gain decreases when input reaches threshold.
You might want to know what compressor is the leading brand in this current market. Gain reduction in compressors that’s best for you can be found and researched easily on here to help you make better decisions on what to buy. If you’re trying to sell hardware compressors and limiters, this site offers information out to you too as well as to the buyers.
You might say that you don’t want anything else, but the best. You could be the kind of person who appreciate the rareness of something more than anything. Either way you can know how much you’re spending compared to the person next to you and read others reviews. No need to shop anywhere else. Gain Reduction equipment here!
Improvisation While Learning To Play Piano
It is nice when you are able to set the formal music practising aside and play any music that you like. However, it’s not always so easy to get hold of the sheet music for your favorite songs. There are two ways to overcome this predicament, and they are related in a way. The first idea is the use of a Fake Book, and the second is to learn how to improvise.
You can get Fake Books at music stores or by ordering them online. You can also get a version of the same concept when you come across a simple notation of a song. Be aware that when using a Fake Book, it only contains two ways to help you. First, you will get a melody line in the treble clef. This will usually only show one note at a time – no chords – and it will be a simplified version of the song.
Along with the melody line, you will also be presented with a letter above the staff. The letter signifies the chord you are to play in the bass clef and could possibly add to the treble clef if you are skilled enough. There will be a letter above the staff each time the chord changes.
By learning the chords, you are preparing yourself nicely to be able to use a Fake Book with ease. You can use the straight chords or invert them. You can play them as running chords where you play each note separately in succession. Any rhythm can be chosen for the bass clef.
The Fake Book may require that you put your creative skills to work. You have to use what you know to fill in the blanks that are left by an incomplete score. Because of this, it is almost your job to create the music from scratch. One good thing is that new, up-to-date Fake Books are produced regularly, and include many modern songs.
Yet, if you want to really come up with your own original song or instrumental piece, you can do it better by learning to improvise. You can learn very complex theory about improvisation, but you can begin with the information you already have. You need to know mainly about scales and chords.
Choose a scale to work from; a C scale may be the easiest for you since it is all on the white keys. Next, choose some chords within that scale. If you have chosen the C major scale, the use of the G major and F major chords are the best combination. The benefit of using these is the lack of sharps or flats.
Create your own chord progression. A nice order would be C-F-G-C. Practice playing these chords with your left hand. Usually the chords are played lower than middle C, however this is not set in concrete. Play them wherever you see fit. Play them as simple triads or invert them. Play them in any sequence. Then keep practicing until it becomes second nature.
When you are comfortable with your chord progression, you can begin to improvise a melody. Take one note at a time, and play these with your right hand, eventually forming a melody line. At first it may sound a little rough, but persistence is key here — keep on practicing, and eventually a nice melody line will be created.
Also, try improvising with a melody you’re already fond of. Say you want to play Jingle Bells, but you do not have the music. The melody can be easily picked out. after you have chosen the melody this way, chords can be fit to the melody, simply based on the melodies scale of key. So as you can see, even though you may not have the sheet music, there are ways you can still play the music without.
Learning to play the piano is easy, even for a beginner. One possible starting point is the no-obligation course at Learning To Play Piano Today. Check them out today, and enjoy your new found skill.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Have you heard of The Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band? Country music, along with folk songs, remain very popular. They go way back. Many famous country and folk bands made records, and toured the country. Many lesser known groups still do quite well. This article focuses on one of the best.
The Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band began in 1966 in Long Beach, California. The band has gone through a lot of musicians. There are still two who have been there from the start. These are the singer guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmy Fadden. Their goal was to not have to work.
The Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band began as a jug band. Jugs were added by jazz bands as a novelty. Memphis jug bands were blues bands. A washboard was used for percussion. TV’s Andy Griffith Show often featured a jug band. Sheriff Taylor had a few run ins with this family. Andy would generally perform with them playing his guitar.
Buy for Me the Rain was the first single released by the Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band. It was a top 40 hit. They performed it with the Doors and even with Jack Benny. Talk about diverse.
The Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band was a big time novelty act in 1968. They performed a song in the 1969 musical western Paint Your Wagon. They even opened for Bill Cosby at Carnegie Hall. They joined a jam session with the great Dizzy Gillespie.
They switched to country and bluegrass in the 70’s. They earned two Grammy nominations. They performed in Japan. They headlined in front of 350,000 people at the Ozark Music Festival.
The Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band kind of disappeared, but popped up now and then. They appeared on SNL and recorded some albums in Nashville. At this time they won two Grammy awards.
Even if you haven’t heard their work, and you probably have, The Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band is part of country music and America.

The rise of the band Queen.
Queen Songs
A popular music rock band called Queen.
This is dedicated to all who played those fantastic Queen Songs. Freddie Mercury, Brain May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, was the bands line up in 1971.
While a little research revealed they had a grand total of 39 songs on vinyl records. Remember vynil?Black and round with a hole in the middle and when scratch went click. Of course the one that anyone worth their salt knows is Queen Bohemian Rhapsody. Others which stand out are, We Will Rock You, Killer Queen.
The band started out at the end of the 1960's, when Freddie Mercury started to front the band and sang lead vocals. The album which seem to bring Queen recognition, was the album 'Sheer Heart Attack',released in 1974 and in 1975 the album 'A Night at The Opera'.
History of the band. 1968/9 -1973. Brian May,Tim Staffell joined up with drummer Roger Taylor to form a band called 'Smile' while at London's Imperial Collage. Tim Staffell was a student at Ealing Art Collage. Tim introduced Farrohk to the band and he became a great fan. Tim left to join another band called Humpy Bong. They changed the name to "Queen". The band did not really settle, until John Deacon joined as bass player in February 1971. There was the quite normal period of time while the band gelled together and not until 1974 that the band hit mainstream success. The Queen 2 album reached number 5 in the album chart and the lead single 'Seven Sea's of Rye' with reached number 10 in the UK singles chart.
Big Time beckonds.
'Sheer Heart Attack' reach number 2 in the UK and sold well in Europe, going gold in US. Then the forth album 'A Night at The Opera' really put the band in the big league. Queen songs from the album were of course the now legendary Bohemian Rhapsody and the amazing video which at the time was ground breaking visual effects. The rest they say, is history.
Sadly Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991 and John Deacon retired in 1997.
