The Devil Went Down To Georgia

The Devil Went Down to Georgia is a popular song released in 1979 by the Charlie Daniels Band.  People haven’t grown tired of it in 30 years, and it doesn’t look like they ever will.

The Devil Went Down To Georgia

The song’s roots are in a melody called “Lonesome Fiddle Blues.”  Charlie added the lyrics.  The Devil Went Down to Georgia Reached number three on the Billboard hot 100.  The RIAA says that amongst songs with a state name in the title, this is the top seller of all time.

The plot is something like this.  The devil is having a slow time finding souls, so he travels to Georgia in desperation.  He’s willing to make deals.  He offers a deal to a young fiddler named Johnny.  It takes the form of a fiddle contest.  Johnny gets a golden fiddle if he wins.  The assumption is that the fiddle is worth a fortune.  Johnny bets his soul.

The Devil Went Down To Georgia

The Devil begins the contest with a tremendous performance.  Demons come from hell to help him put on a rock ‘n roll extravaganza.  It seems as if Johnny is doomed.  Johnny’s work with a simple fiddle is even better.  The devil can’t argue.  The devil hands over the Golden fiddle.  Johnny teases is the devil, telling him he’s open for a rematch at any time.  In the original version of the song, son of a gun was replaced by a more colorful phrase.

Remakes and parodies soon followed.  The Spanish version is“El Diablo bajo a Georgia”.  The cartoon Futurama features a contest between the main characters and the robot Devil.  After the robot double plays he’s attacked with the Golden fiddle so the people can escape.  There’s a very clever music video of the song on Youtube titled “Primus – The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.  The story is well animated.  There was even a sequel by Charlie Daniels.  It was called “The Devil Comes Back to Georgia”.

The Devil Went Down To Georgia

The Devil Went Down to Georgia was sung by Charlie Daniel’s band.  And if you heard ‘em sing it when it was done you’d give them boys a hand.

Devil Woman

Devil Woman was a song recorded by Cliff Richard in 1976.  It was a big hit, reaching number nine on the UK charts.  It made it to number six in the United States.  That was Richard’s biggest hit ever in the United States.  Here’s more information on the song.

Devil Woman

A man named Terry Britten penned it.  He was a well known song writer whose work was performed by people like Michael Jackson.  He had some other hits such as “What’s Love Got to Do with It”.  Terry played the guitar on Cliff Richard’s recording of Devil Woman.  It was recorded at Abbey Road studio, where the Beatles often recorded.

The song tells a story.  A man believes he has been cursed by an evil cat.  Wanting to have the curse lifted, the man seeks the help of a gypsy psychic.  But it turns out the cat didn’t curse him.  It was a ploy by the gypsy woman to bring the man into her power.

Devil Woman

Not many songs tell a straightforward story like that heard in Devil Woman.  They’re pretty simple for songs.  They use few instruments for their simple tune.  Devil Woman is like this.  It was recorded with a guitar, some drums, an electric piano and miscellaneous percussion.  A singer was involved too.

Pop songs don’t usually use the combo of major and minor chords heard in Devil Woman.  It’s one of the earliest hit songs in the United States to encompass more than an octave of the musical range.

The song has had other performers.  The Accused is one of them.  It’s a Washington band founded in 1981.  Their music is splatter rock.  They incorporate sounds from horror movies in their songs.  This means sounds like chainsaw guitar riffs.

Cradle of Faith also performed Devil Woman.  They were an English extreme metal band.  Their songs were in the style of any kind of metal according to the band.  The song fit them nicely.

Devil Woman

Devil Woman is a haunting song.

How To Play The Bass Guitar

Allot of people do not think about learning to play the bass guitar when they first decide to learn an instrument. What most people don't realize is that the bass guitar is really the heart and soul of the music. People feel the bass just as much as they hear it. This makes the bass guitar one of the most exciting instruments in all of music. For this article we will be taking a look at how to play bass guitar.

To learn the bass you will need to start off by learning the basics first. Make sure that you learn the names of the different parts and what those parts do. The basics start with knowing the names of the strings, how to tune your guitar, and then with learning the scales. Most experts would also agree that learning the bass is much easier when you start out with a fretted bass guitar.

You need to get good with your fingers if you want to play bass. There are some exercises you can try out to improve your playing. Don't forget to take a few practices just learning how to hold it the right way and get the right technique down. If you don’t hold the bass the right way you will find learning to be rather difficult.

It’s important that you learn to play songs that you actually like. Learning the bass is allot harder when you are trying to learn songs or music that you don't even like. At the same time these songs need to be relativity simple and easy to learn. Picking songs that are too hard for a beginner to learn is one of the biggest mistakes new players make.

How you choose to learn is up to you. Many people simply learn to play by ear. This is probably one of the best ways. However, you should know that it is a very useful skill to be able to read a few notes. You may want to take lessons from an instuctor, but you should also consider teaching yourself how to play by ear.

You may also want to consider learning bass online. There are a number of good tutorials that can be found or even some affordable lessons that you can take. This just happens to be something you should keep in mind.

Ghost Riders In The Sky

With Ghost Riders in the Sky, Stan Jones opened a great chapter in the history of country music as early as 1948. He had no clue about what a hit his song was going to become, as there dozens of rewrites and versions have appeared along the years. Ghost Riders in the Sky is a visionary song about a cowboy who sees cattle with red eyes chased by ghost cowboys in the sky. In the vision the cowboy is warned to improve his life style or never find peace in the after life and be damned for eternity. Moreover, European myths can be read between the lines in the lyrics.

Ghost Riders In The Sky

Ghost Riders in the Sky has become a classic by now, and almost all the stars of country music  made an attempt at its interpretation. Even the Riders on the Storm composed by The Doors, seems to find its sources in Stan Jones’ song. From all the variants of the material, the one recorded by Vaughn Monroe in 1949 was the most popular enjoying the first place in the Billboard charts of the year, and holding this position for more than five months.

Ghost Riders In The Sky

Ghost Riders in the Sky became part of the soundtrack of the movie Blues Brothers 2000, and then it inspired a heavy metal rendition by a German band. In time, several rock musicians aimed at combining the initial original country song with the message of the rock movement, and different success rates were scored. Beside rewrites, new versions and source of inspiration, Ghost Riders in the Sky also fueled all sorts of parodies from the Ghost Writers in Disguise to politically engaged lyrics that some listeners may not even be aware of.

Ghost Riders In The Sky

An Irish parody version of Ghost Riders in the Sky refers to the destruction of British helicopters by IRA members, though no such acts of violence were ever committed. Despite these politically engaged messages that could be added to the Ghost Riders in the Sky, most of the performing artists are not aware of them, and sing the song without pointing at terrorist or Republican facts. Last but not least, Ghost Riders in the Sky also served as a topic for the creation of engaged football club songs by supporters. Yet, beyond all the changes, it is clearly obvious that Ghost riders in the Sky made history in the annals of country music.

Spirit In The Sky

Spirit in the Sky is the song composed by Norman Greenbaum in the late 60s that made history all around the world by its cultural impact, tune and lyrics. The writer of Spirit in the Sky found his inspiration after listening to a gospel song on TV, and it took him no more than fifteen minutes to write the lyrics. It refers to the life after death and the Christian experience in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Though, Greenbaum is Jewish and identifies himself as such, the Christian side of the song did not remain hidden even if the author claimed that his intention was not that of imbuing the song with religious fervor.

Spirit In The Sky

Greenbaum had the intention of reaching broader audiences when he referred to sin in Spirit in the Sky, particularly since the concept of evil doing is common to all cultures and religions, and it is far from being limited or regulated by Christianity only. When it comes to musicality, the guitar is the dominant note in the musical economy of the song. It seems that a Fender Telecaster with a fuzz box inside was used so as to generate the preponderance of the guitar sound.

Spirit In The Sky

The characteristics of Spirit in the Sky are incredible by the new sound imprint: psychedelic rock music meets gospel distorted guitar playing, tambourines, drums and hand clapping. Though Spirit in the Sky became a hit, its beginnings were pretty difficult as the record company showed increased reluctance towards producing it because of the uncommon lyrics and original style. Spirit in the Sky saved the album it was part of, since it followed two other single releases which were rated as failures. Somehow, the producers needed to save the project, without even imagining the kind of impact the song would have on the market.

Spirit In The Sky

John Lennon, the famous Beatles member, expressed his great liking of Spirit in the Sky, while the Rolling Stones gave it only a 333rd place in the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Even so, the song hit in the charts in Australia, Canada, USA and United Kingdom, and it made a statement that was to become the foundation stone of glam rock development and the more extensive usage of electronic technologies in music making. Due to its message and sound uniqueness, Spirit in the Sky applied to the necessities of film making too, being included in over twenty movies.

Nina Sky

Nicole and Natalie Albino are the voices that make up Nina Sky. Though they had a childhood marked by music experiences of a variety of kinds, Nina Sky girls only got known on the market in 2004. They both play drums and the guitar and they were educated in a very eclectic music background by their DJ step dad. They wrote  their first song at the age of seven and made dreams of becoming singers by the age of ten. It took some very good years afterwards for Nina Sky to finally get the chance to show artistic talent on stage.

Nina Sky

Before hitting the charts, the girls from Nina Sky worked as DJs and started developing their own sound under the guidance of two musical producers, Elijah Wells and Lionel Bermingham, alias the Jettsonz. Through this connection, Nina Sky released their first single Move Ya Body that thrilled listeners by the Caribbean rhythms with some R&B beats. The demo version of the song was very much to the liking of a division president from Universal Records, and a collaboration with the production house followed for Nina Sky.

Nina Sky

Move Ya Body remains the song to have opened many doors for Nina Sky but they had to move further on with their musical career. Music promotion became a priority, and they started working hard in this direction particularly, with their efforts rewarded by the increased response to reggaeton music on both sides of the Atlantic. At the end of 2007, Nina Sky terminated their business relation with Universal Records and went for J Records, for an album the release of which has been postponed. In the meantime Nina Sky made various remixes of other hits like J. Holiday’s Bed or Cassidy’s  My Drink n My 2 Steps

Nina Sky

Nina Sky’s songs deal with all sorts of there is bitterness, mistrust, lost friendship but joy too. On the other hand the beat of their music is vivid with nice R&B notes that don’t get unnoticed on the dance floor Nina Sky even participated to the writing of the famous Betty Wright’s song You Deserve for which they also contributed as guest vocalists. With only two albums, lots of remixes and collaborations, there are many other things to expect from Nina Sky. Will change style or go for the same beat? It remains to see.

Cool Beginner Guitar Lessons For Newbies

If you have thought about learning guitar then you have probably thought about taking a electric guitar lesson or acoustic guitar lesson. You should know that you have plenty of options besides going directly to a guitar instructor. It is possible to teach yourself guitar fairly easily. Today we will be taking a look at a guide to help new guitar players start playing in the easiest way possible.

Pick Your Style First

The first thing you need to decide is what type of music you would like to learn. Learning to play country guitar is not the same as learning how to play heavy metal. You want to learn songs that are your type. You should also make sure that you are learning songs from someone who is an expert at the type of music you would like to play and create. The real trick to this is to find songs that are very easy to learn in your type of music.

Your First Guitar

Some people make the mistake of buying a really fancy and expensive guitar to learn from. This is something that doesn't happen often. You need something simple to learn from. The odds are that you will want to buy another guitar once your skills do improve. You shouldn’t have spend to much more then a couple hundred dollars for a good starter guitar. You should consider buying used if you can find a deal that is worth it. In most cases you want need a used guitar and should be able to buy one that is new at an affordable price.

Should You Take Lessons

Most people can easily teach themselves guitar without the need for taking lessons. You can easily learn by watching a DVD, going through a book, using software, and learning by ear. There will always be people who stuggle to teach themselves and will end up taking lessons or just giving up. Taking lessons is a great way to learn, but you can expect to fork out a fair bit of money for them. The more lessons you need the more the cost will add up. I would highly recommend that you record your lessons with the instructor so that you can watch them later.

The only way you will ever get good at playing guitar is practice. Learning to play is not something that is easy and it will take some time before you do get good at it. I would recommend that you try practicing at least 30 to 60 minutes everyday.

Beginner Guitar Lessons For Those Who Want To Learn The Electric Guitar

It has always been your dream to play the guitar. You listen to all those rock and metal songs. You wish you could learn to play just like the greatest guitarist in the world. Now you can! All you have to do is take some good beginner guitar lessons to get started. This article will take an introductory look at what it takes to play and learn guitar.

Allot of people I know start things off by taking tutorials that can be found in books and DVDs. However, it should be noted that many peole find these methods to be difficult. In fact, many people will try the techniques taught in these lessons with allot of frustration. Allot of new guitarists struggle learning the notes and with reading the music. Many would rather learn by ear. This is when taking lessons from an instructor can be your best bet.

It Starts With The Basics

When you take lessons you will start out with the basics. You will learn how to hold the guitar, the different strings, how to tune the guitar, and how to hold it correctly. When you make a mistake your teacher will correct you. This is the main advantage on having an instructor. With an instructor they can help you with the things that you are struggling with.

A good instuctor can help you pick the right songs to start out learning. Before you decide on an instuctor make certain that he or she can teach you the type of music that you like to listen to and want to play. You don't want an instructor who teaches country guitar when you want to learn how to play rock and metal. This will make things frustrating for the instructor and waist your time. Make certain that you ask an instuctor you are considering to take lessons from if they can teach the type of music you want to learn.

Another area where an instructor can help you out allot is when it comes to a tablature. A tablature is readable music that guitarists have made. You see guitarists do not use their own sheet music. If you already know some sheet music you will have to learn how to read music differently when it comes to guitar. A good instuctor will help you out allot in this area.

As you can probably tell learning how to play electric guitar has never been this easy. There are lots of options for you. You can learn online, through DVD, through professional lessons, or simply teach yourself. There is no right or wrong way to go about doing this.
